I wonder how accurate this was in depicting people of that time period. It is really fascinating, it would have been during Chalcolithic Europe.

I liked it a lot. A part of me wants to think the violence was too sudden and therefore unrealistic but then I just have to watch the news to see nothing has changed fundamentally over 5 thousand years.

Beautiful and horrible. The best and worst from man and nature. Cinematography rivals any nature documentary. Not for the faint of heart.

When Men were Men! LOL Seriously though, I'd love to have a dude that'd kick ass & take care of things. Instead, I've had to get super fit & take care of everything myself

The movie sets us looking at one family group and one could imagine that a hunter / gatherer tribal life would not survive in that particular terrain - it would simply run out of available food. Let's assume they traded with folks from the plains. Some of the dwellings were chinked, others ...Read more

Beautifully filmed, well acted (given that I know absolutely nothing about being a human some 5,000 years ago). Gives all of us, those who are willing to imagine that, some idea of life before dishwashers and iphones.
Tribalism and babies and revenge. We might -- I say might -- shake ...Read more

very good film. A bit too much gore -- blood and guts.

One of the ancient DNA finds that continues to intrigue me is the discovery of Borrelia burgdorferi, the agent of Lyme disease, in Ötzi the 5300-year-old ice mummy from the Italian Alps. As far as I know, this is the only finding of B. burgdorferi in ancient remains of any date.

What an incredible movie! I could not imagine a movie I would love with an ancient language for which there is no translation even necessary. "The Iceman" story has always fascinated me. This movie brought it all to life. The cinematography, acting, and scenery are nothing short of superb. ...Read more

Awful film. Any anthropologist would be disgusted by the stereotypical representation of a 'traditional' (neolithic) society as one where people wallow in filth, never wash or groom themselves, grunt, can't figure out how to put chinking between the cracks in their huts, stare at each other ...Read more

I liked your take on this aspect. Perhaps the filmmakers have never spent any time really experiencing another, more traditional culture, which would at least give them the imagination to believe simpler lives can also be full of human depth, compassion, complexity. It's a very common

Thanks for your response, Lisa. (Gee, this is great - I'm watching Kanopy here on Long Island thru my library, and you thru yours in Seattle!) Yes, I'm sure they have no experience with other traditional societies- or they let the idea that this was something like 6000 years ago lead them ...Read more

i was prepared to sit down to watch this and then pick it to pieces - primarily in relationship to what utensils they had and cloth versus hide for clothing. Ten minutes in, I just relaxed and went with the flow of what ever came up on the screen.' Very engrossing for me right to the end even ...Read more

Agreed. Was very intrigued by the film. But we come to tribalism, babies and revenge. I guess not much has changed, particularly regards revenge, in the last 5000 years. Nonetheless, I recommend the film to those whose sensibilities hanker after the answer: What, precisely, was it like to ...Read more

Well, that was unusual. It was worth a watch. I wish it had a bit more substance about the history, I guess. But I know, it's not a documentary. I did catch myself giggling, wondering what a Ken Burns version with letters read in Rhaetian would be like.

Great and hauntingly beautiful scenery, video played perfectly, no doubt a story played out a million times in Human history. I definitely recommend watching it, It helps you be thankful for what you have and helps re-align your priorities.

Gorgeous and captivating setting in the Alps, haunting re-creation of life 5300 years ago, raw and passionate story.

You might have read 'revenge' and thought you knew how this movie would turn out. It's been filmed a thousand times before.

But, you probably haven't seen one without one recognizable word spoken, set in a forgotten age, with hazardous twists that you probably will not see ...Read more

Wow! What a fascinating movie. Iceman got his revenge. I imagined the story was true as to why they found him way up there in the Alps.
